The Bad News, health care reform will be delayed. . .
On Tuesday, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle asked President Obama to withdraw his nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services due to his personal income tax troubles. This unexpected shake-up has left the Obama administration scrambling to find a replacement and will likely have an impact on the timing of any broad-scale health reform bill advanced by the administration. Daschle, who was also appointed to be Director of the newly created White House Office on Health Reform and have West Wing office space, was the President’s top choice for the DHHS position.
Senior administration officials admitted this week that they had no “plan B” for this particular cabinet post and now are evaluating other options including members of Congress and Governors with strong heath policy experience.
